We've had quite a busy weekend. Kyle and I finished off my 3-day birthday extravaganza on Friday by going to see The Unexpected Guest at the Alley Theatre. We love Agatha Christie mysteries and this one didn't disappoint. I love how in all of her plays everyone is a suspect till the very end! John stayed with Mimi and Grandpa so we could sleep in!!!!!!!!!
Saturday morning we got kolaches (YUUUM!) and headed over to pick up John on our way to Galveston for the Beach Bash. Justin, Erin, and The Boys usually have one large blow-out party every summer when they return from Indonesia. This year it was in Galveston. John enjoyed seeing the ocean for the first time and playing with (dirty, nasty) sand. He didn't even mind the little waves.
However today we noticed that John's cough (which he's had since Thursday) was getting bad enough that it was starting to sound like an old smoker. I can't imagine that him eating a fist full of sand on Saturday helped the situation? It's hard to see in this photo but there is sand residue all over that little munchable mouth.
I took him to the doctor and she noticed he had some wheezing in his lungs and I had to give him a breathing treatment. Ok people, this is just about one of the worst things I, personally, have had to do to my own child. (Thankfully, this is the worst thing we've had to deal with and I realize that is a blessing in itself.) Back to the breathing treatment--I had to physically restrain my little boy while holding a mask over his face for five minutes. Five minutes seems like 50 minutes when you're holding down a terrified little person who is looking at you like "Why, mommy? What did I do to deserve this? Why are you hurting me?" Not to mention the flailing and screaming and crying. Certainly not a one person job. John is so NOT dramatic most of the time and his desperation today was so extreme it almost had me crying. Hopefully little man will be back in order soon. Breathing Treatments = Bad News Bears (for Mommy)
Kyle and I have been sharing a car the past few weeks. So part of our routine is to pick up Kyle at work at the end of the day. When we pull up to the building John gets so excited he can hardly contain his little self. Sometimes he waves at security men or random men that exit the buliding. Then his face falls when he sees it's not DADDY! I get a kick out of watching my little man get so excited over my big man. It's the sweetest thing ever.
Here is the Anticipation. Where IS that Daddy guy??
Here is some fun video of me shakin' my tailfeather after dinner on the cruise. It's quite apparent I have some of that Sangre Espanola (Spanish blood) in me. Notice my smooth gyrations from the hips. That ain't taught, people. That's fer reeeeal, y'all. My only regret is that awful mac n cheese residue all over my face. But whatever. I was havin' fun.
I am also a big fan of Flo Rida's Low Low Low song. Anything with a strong beat, really. Word. Here I am pop n locking to that one. I was about to hit it hard when I spotted a dirty sock on the floor and was unable to proceed until said filth was removed from my presence. I had to ask that we cut video immediately. I mean, who ever heard of a dirty sock in the middle of a dance music video?? Some respect, please.
We are BACK from our family cruise! The Bethancourt family headed to Mexico (Cozumel & Progresso) for a 5-day excursion.
It was great getting to spend lots of time with the family all together in one place! Especially getting to see Justin, Erin, & the boys who only grace our presence once a year since they live on the other side of the world.
I think we all had lots of fun but Kyle and I determined John had the BEST time of us all.
John's Top 5 Cruise Moments:
#1Eating all the food his little eyes could see and his little finger could point to. During one meal JT proceeded to eat an entire adult portion of fish and chips plus a big hunk of grapes & a few bites of dessert. I was certain either his tummy might explode or he might get sick from all the binging but he seemed to come out OK. For those of you that know our baby has a "regularity" issue, rest assured that we had great success in the poop department.
#2The live country-themed dancing and singing show. The little dude kicked it until almost 10 PM one night dancing (on the tables, mind you) and clapping wildly to a variety show. You've never seen someone so excited to see people dancing and singing. He was in his element.
#3Being mistaken for a celebrity. Yes, at dinner one night a person from the table next to us asked if he could take a picture of John because he thought he looked like the E-trade baby.
#4Ned the Waiter. Ah, Ned, what would we have done without you. After the second night at dinner Ned knew John's preferences exactly. Like an ol' regular, Ned would have John's highchair pulled up to the usual spot at the table. Then Ned would greet us at our table with a plate full of grapes (for the Grape Monster--that's a whole other story) and a glass of whole milk with a straw. After all, John became a regular fixture at dinner and he was treated accordingly. This baby had it too good.
#5Hanging with the fun cousins! John had a super time with all the entertainment his cousins provided. There was no shortage of people to observe, play with, and nap with. Alex, Isaac, Luke, & Jack were very generous with their toys and displayed some adorable tender moments with him. I especially found it cute when John would get upset how 3 year old Jack would try to comfort him by saying softly in his baby voice "Don't cry, Baby John, it's OK." And the most fun part was having SLEEPOVERS in Mamaw and Grandpa's room every night. Thanks for taking that on, M & G! What a big help that was for the "big kids"....
Well hello there! We took a brief hiatus and I'm not sure why? Busy, I guess.
First we must say congratulations to my brother-in-law, Phillip, and his wife Cami who are expecting their first baby!!!! YAY! John will have another cousin. Y'all may place your bets now as to whether or not this will be the SIXTH Bethancourt grandbaby boy....soooo exciting!
Second, we received our electric bill yesterday in the mail. Painful. Unfortunately we have a variable rate that has spiked dramatically the past 2 months, doubling our bill each time. Yes, doubling. So yesterday Kyle and I were in such shock and disbelief that we set the thermostat at 80 and brought out our little high powered fan. Unfortunately the fan made it's way into our bedroom and kept me awake almost all night last night with it's loud whirring. Not sure how long that will last. We may also invest in some of those battery powered head lamps to wear around the house instead of using our electricity....
We've also considered putting John to work to earn his keep around here. You think I'm joking? Yes, it's that bad.
Today we celebrated our nation's independence by heading to Miramont in College Station and hanging at the pool. John got to brush up on his swimming skills and play with his cousins Alex, Luke, Isaac, & Jack.
