Blackjack Bethancourts in Atlantic City

Today Kyle, Bun & I were very spontaneous and adventurous. We decided to check out Atlantic City! The Las Vegas of the East Coast! It's only an hour away from Philly and we have Kara's car in our posession since she's still in Texas...so, why not?!

Let's just say that Kyle and I have never had good experiences driving in New Jersey---ever. The roads are ridiculous and the signs are confusing. I take my hat off to anyone who can keep their eye on the road while reading multiple freeway signs that have about 3 paragraphs of information each. Before you can finish reading a sign you're face to face with those orange barrels and playing chicken with the corner of the guard rail....YIKES! Kyle and I were very determined to get to The Borgata hotel and casino and we drove by it about 3 times before we actually could figure out where the exit was off the freeway. You'd think these people would make it as EASY as possible to get to the casino. By the time we made it to the parking lot I declared I was so mad that I didn't want to even spend any money in the place. But alas, I cooled off once I entered.

It was neat inside. Very new and flashy. Kyle noticed there were 3 prime steakhouses in the hotel: Bobby Flay Steak, Wolfgang Puck's & The Old Homestead. Kyle was most impressed by this. I was most impressed with the Dale Chihuly glass blown light chandeliers throughout the hotel & casino. You don't see his stuff very often but there is a ton of it in Vegas and this is a picture of his work in the V&A museum in London:

Kyle and I played the nickel slots first which made me mad because I felt there were no clear instructions on how to play the game and I lost the $5 bill I put in the machine. I felt I had been tricked so I gave up. After lunch and walking off my frustration at the unclear rules of slot machines I decided I'd use my next $5 on the penny slots....now that's MY kind of slot. Only pennies. I did well on that one.

Kyle decided to play blackjack and I have never sat at one of those big tables so I just watched. It was quite exciting and very fast. I was a bit intimidated and I thought with my math skills I'd be sitting at the table with all fingers and toes out trying to count my cards to see if I made 21. But Kyle was quick and hit quite a streak. We only played $20 and when he hit the $75 mark we decided we had paid for our trip and were happy to leave the table. I felt like quite the low-roller because as we played with $5 chips the other people at the table were laying down $100 bills and playing with $25 chips but whatever it was fun to watch!
